well the day has finally come and after 35yrs of smoking I have decided enough is enough, so the patches are on.Has anyone else decided to pack up, if so maybe we can form a smoke free chat, on here. It's all about will power but a little encouragement from fellow suffers may also help.I love a fag when I'm on the computer so I now have a straw the size of a ciggy in my hand. Anyone else got any ideas.

Not that im a smoker myself my boss found that keeping his fingers busy with pens and kojak lollies helped.

I wish you luck, you wont know what to do with all the money you will save. Though stuart might find something...

I,d been smoking for near on 50yrs and started with patches about 10 weeks ago. Have'nt touch one from day one. I just find keeping busy helps. As we often have grandchildren round we never smoked in the house anyway. By the way it wasn't the ban that made me give up.

well it's now day two and when I got home from work the craving was really bad, so inbetween the storms I did some gardening. I am taking each day as it comes and with encouragement from you all I know I can beat this horrible habit.

Whay type of patches have you got? I never got any real craving once I had started with mine. I do fancy a ciggy now and then but it soon passes.I think I may be putting on a little weight but that wont matter because I barely weigh 10 stone wet through. Stick with it and Good Luck.

maureen

i wish you the best of luck to fight the craving but maybe what you need to do is read up or look on tv/internet at some less fortunate people who have suffered greatly as a result of being smokers as this may just shock you into further determination to beat it

i say this from personal experience as my father was once a heavy smoker and often dismissed anti-smoking ads and campaigns but then about three years ago he suffered a stroke and thankfully he overcame it but it gave him the wake up call he needed and since that day he hasn't smoked again

i wouldn't want anyone to experience any serious health issues from smoking but it is important that smokers appreciate the serious consequences from smoking to help them beat the habit

Thanks to all for your encouraging words.

It is now 5 days without a ciggie. I was stressed at work yesterday, so I played with some blu-tac.

I am finding it harder as the days go on but I also have more money in my purse, so this is keeping me going. Yesterdays good news about BUFC I wanted to celebrate with a glass of wine and a ciggie, but I  resisted both. God I'm becoming a nun.

Here's to the next few days. Come on you lot there must be more smokers who need some encouragement.
